History of Baltimore Canvas Products, Inc.
Baltimore Shade & Awning was founded in 1917 in Baltimore, MD, as an awning and shade company. In the 1950s, Harry Hansen, Sr. purchased the business, renaming it Baltimore Canvas Products, Inc., and adding custom canvas products.
Rick Hansen, Harry’s son and current president, took over in the 1970s. An expert in design and fabrication, Rick creates functional, custom awnings and unique canvas products, with a portfolio of large-scale projects. He combines aesthetic and structural design, always ready to problem-solve and collaborate on new ideas.
In 2021, Baltimore Canvas Products moved from W. Franklin St in Baltimore to a new facility in Westminster, MD. At our Westminster location, we continue our tradition of hand-sewn fabric awnings while incorporating modern innovations like motorized retractable awnings and high-tech shade screens, ideal for transforming restaurant outdoor seating.
